A mobile app Case Study/Personal Project

The Fitting Room

Problem Statement

Fashion stylists and their assistants are constantly on the move while working on a photoshoot or with a celebrity client. Remembering to keep a list of credits of fashion brands used to style each final look is often an afterthought, or messily jotted down in a folder on their Notes app, which takes time out of their main tasks. The credits list of final looks is a crucial step for advertisers to get press for their brands being featured or worn on the red carpet, and leaving anyone out can compromise those relationships for future jobs.

Background

  • An app that will help to compile fashion brand’s credit information and share with their creative team will allow Stylists and their assistants to optimize their time and secure business relationships.

    Hypothesis

  • With fashion stylists often working on multiple projects at a time, their deadlines for credit submissions are required as soon as the production stage is over. Some projects might even require credits be submitted during production so that the biggest advertisers can prioritize specific items to be featured over others, or there’s often a tight turnaround with logistics for loaned items to be returned as soon as it’s done being photographed. Submitting this information is usually communicated through various email threads or phone calls which can get lost in the shuffle.

    The Why

  • This app would be the perfect tool to accompany other Stylist organization apps that have been launched in recent years. Those apps focus on the “pulling” stage of clothes from PR showrooms and the status of those requests. Having an organization app like this in their arsenal would make their administrative work a cleaner and more seamless process.

    Business Opportunities/Goals

Touchpoints

  • Stylists that have photos of final shot looks stored on multiple smart phones or memory cards

  • There’s an overall ‘organized chaos’ approach throughout the current process of obtaining and submitting credits to PR/Marketing

  • Missing credits of clothing/accessories that are difficult to identify from final images

Deliverables

Designed and prototyped screens illustrating the concept of a mobile app paired with a sharing capability to Google Sheets or similar platforms for creative teams to view.

Values

The Fitting Room provides value to its users, and therefore PR/marketing teams as well. It streamlines the credit submission process and improves work efficiency for Stylists and their assistants.

Future Roadmap

Future Research

  • What type of stylists get the most use out of an app like this?

  • How would the technology work with apps like Séve or Vogue Runway when integrated together (as it feels like a missing puzzle piece)?

  • Would stylists or their assistants benefit from a tablet and/or desktop version?

Future Use Cases

  • Data tracking for PR/marketing teams to quantify how many times a look or item has been featured in the media/press based on the amount of times Stylists have submitted credits for it

  • Add-on features for accessibility such as voice texting, AI to pre-scan items of clothing/accessories in a photo and tag for users so they only have to fill in the brand name
